What is an end-of-life doula?
An end-of-life doula is a non-medical professional who offers emotional, practical, educational, and relational support before, during, and after a death. Support may include planning, family and caregiver guidance, legacy work, vigil support, and guidance through grief, rituals, and transitions.
Doula support can complement hospice, medical, spiritual, therapeutic, legal, and funeral services by helping people feel more informed, prepared, heard, and accompanied.
This role is commonly called an end-of-life doula or death doula. Terminology may vary by community and professional.

DeathDoula.org is designed to help people and families understand their options, find independent end-of-life and death doula professionals, learn about their services, and discover events and educational resources.
Each professional operates their own practice and communicates their own services, approach, fees, service area, and availability.

Discover community conversations, workshops, gatherings, and educational offerings shared by end-of-life and death doula professionals, organizations, and community partners.
Events may support greater understanding of end-of-life preparation, caregiving, grief, remembrance, rituals, and community connection.

Hospices, healthcare providers, funeral homes, faith communities, grief organizations, and other community partners can use DeathDoula.org to learn about doula support, find independent professionals, share events and resources, and strengthen community awareness.
For independent end-of-life and death doula professionals
DeathDoula.org is being developed to give trained end-of-life and death doula professionals a public profile where they can share their experience, approach, services, service area, and events with people, families, communities, and organizations. Each doula will continue to operate an independent practice and manage their own services and client relationships.
